Can you feel a brand new day?
In the midst of COVID madness, cancelled school, bored teenagers and a myriad of life and work commitments, today I felt the most beautiful change come over our nation. I was, of course, running around on my lunch hour trying to accomplish the pesky little details of adult life, when I happened to turn on NPR. And heard Amanda Gorman. Now, nothing usually gets me quite so much as hearing Amazing Grace, so I was surprised when this young woman began reading her poem. I pulled over and simply listened. I am not sure if it was the tenor of her voice, the strength and conviction in each word, or simply the beauty and sentiment of a hopeful, helpful look into our future.
Bottom line: if this is the youth of tomorrow I gladly hand over whatever slim and fusty knowledge I may have. We are in good hands.
